Last year, more than 16,000 people attended the event celebrating Dublin’s 25th anniversary.  Hoping to draw more people this year, the theme is a global one introducing the attendees to many different cultures from around the world.  The shows scheduled include different dances from Irish, Indian, Brazilian, Chinese and West African groups to name a few.

A special concert is planned for Saturday night at 6pm where, Pete Esovedo, will be performing.  This is a great, free event you should take advantage of this weekend.

The Dublin post office which looks rather old and small, is just that. The post office hasn’t changed since the city of Dublin first incorporated in 1982. In those 26 years, the population of the city has multiplied over three times but the post office has remained unchanged with a tight parking lot and only three windows open at capacity. Danville, which has similar population to Dublin, has two post offices today that have a total of eight service windows.

While a new post office is not in the plans due to a federal government freeze, the city is trying to work on ways to improve the current Village Parkway location by expanding the parking situation and attempting to add more service windows. Other solutions include initializing a contract with Dublin businesses to provide shipping and other postal services. The goal would be to alleviate some of the heavy traffic which the patrons suffer through during the major portion of the day.

If you are in need of mailing out a package, you may want to get to the post office early morning and right before they close. Because if you go there during the lunch hour, you may find yourself spending your entire lunch in line.
